Welcome to The Ashram’s new Blog!
Long ago, before sannyas, before Mahamandaleshwar, before Australia, in Ann Arbor, sometime in 1975, Baba Muktananda asked Swamiji to develop a correspondence course.
Baba was sweeping the world awakening hundreds, then thousands of people. Devotees who could not travel with him on his World Tours desperately wanted to stay in touch with him. Baba called on Swamiji to help facilitate that and write something for them.
I remember that Swamiji was not sure about a ‘correspondence course’ but on thinking about it, because as a precocious 11-year-old he had started a magazine in Brooklyn, he came up with the idea to create a magazine that would report the Tour news. And by Guru’s grace, I became his managing editor.
Over the years circulation, design and content grew into a substantial magazine that fed the spiritual hunger of Baba’s devotees. Swamiji then invited some of his guru brothers and sisters to contribute.
The inaugural magazine came out in August 1975 and Swamiji wrote:
“Let us take a place in the company of siddhas and siddha students. There is no finer company, no richer heritage, no more sublime lineage. The Siddha Path will be a means of enjoying Satsang a way to maintain and strengthen our relationship with Baba and his teachings. Ideas, questions and experiences can be shared in these pages.
“Siddha Yoga is no special set of practises or rituals. It is life lived as life should be, in the presence of God and in His grace.
Muktananda is the bestower of that grace.”
Even though Swamiji’s message was written almost 50 years ago, the truth and Shakti in his words remains. Baba’s grace still flows. Swamiji is the conduit that awakens, sustains, and guides us on our journey toward the Self.
